The Smelling Bottles are used to develop and refine children's sense of smell.  By pairing scents, children use their olfactory sense to find similarities and differences.  The scents also introduce descriptive language as children explore sweet, sharp, faint, strong and other discoveries.

Dry substances can be used, including herbs, spices, flower petals, scented leaves and lemon or orange rinds.  Liquid substances can be dropped onto a cotton ball including vanilla and peppermint essence, rose water and perfumes.
